We take first the New National Road and drive along the north coast, direction east. A while after we have passed the Cretan capital, the city of Heraklion we change the direction and continue to the south. Our first stop we make at the old monastery of Panagia Kern.
After our visit there we continue to Lassithi. The green plateu is situated in the heart of Dikti Mountains and is especially well-known because of Psychro-cave, where, according to the Greek mythology, the Greek god Zeus was born. We visit the ancient cave and than, a short while later we stop for our lunch-break.
Our next and at same time our last stop on this trip is one of the highlights of the day- the famous Minoan palace of Knossos. It follows a very interesting guided tour. The journey through the fascinating Minoan history lasts approximately 2 hours. Afterwards we take our coach again and drive back to Rethymnon.

We will start ,along the North coast , by going east .First stop , the old monastery of Panagia Kera which is Cretan Byzantine church located 1km from the village of Kritsa , in the Dikte Mountains. It contains the finest-preserved Byzantine-era paintings in Crete,and for that reason, has become one of the most culturally and historically significant churches on the island. We pass to the Lassithi plateau where we find the Dictaean cave which is famous in Greek Mythology as the place where Amalthea, nurtured the infant God Zeus with her goat’s milk and we visit.A good idea for our lunch- break.
Last but not least the famous Minoan palace of Knossos , an important city in antiquity, which was inhabited from the Neolithic period . The palace was built on the Kephala hill . According to tradition, it was the seat of the king Minos. It is connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth, with the Minotaur, and the story of Daidalos and Ikaros.
